France’s main government scholarship for international students is the Eiffel Excellence Scholarship. It pays EUR 1,200 a month to master’s students and EUR 2,100 a month to doctoral students. The catch: you cannot apply to Eiffel yourself. A French university must nominate you.
What Eiffel Covers, and What It Does Not
Covered: monthly allowance, return international flight, health insurance and cultural activities.
Not covered: tuition fees. Check the fee at your university, and ask whether it offers a fee waiver.
How Nomination Works
Apply for admission to a master’s or PhD programme at a French university.
Ask the university to nominate you for Eiffel. Each university sets its own internal deadline, usually around mid-November.
The university sends its chosen candidates to Campus France.
Results are published by Campus France, usually at the end of March.

Common Questions
Can I apply for Eiffel directly on Campus France?
No. Only French universities can submit Eiffel applications. Your job is to get your university to nominate you.
Is EUR 1,200 enough to live in France?
Outside Paris it usually covers rent and basic living costs. In Paris, rent alone can take most of it, so budget carefully.
